New Swedish words

suecia-bandera-del-grunge_19-134411The Language Council of Sweden has removed the word ungoogleable from its 2012 list of new words. The word in Swedish is ogooglebar, which means “something which cannot be found on the internet with the use of a search engine.”

The word was removed due to copyright infringement claims by Google. The search engine organisation had contacted the Language Council to request that the definition include a mention of the compnay’s name, and to add a disclaimer to point out that Google is a trademark.

Forty words did make the grade, one of which is nomofob – fear of being seperated from one’s mobile phone. Hen, the Swedish gender neutral pronoun, inspired the addition of the word henifiera, meaning to replace ‘him’ or ‘her.’
