Articles By Wendy Wong

Wendy's Bio Wendy is a full-time language teacher and curriculum designer, part-time blogger, and constant traveller. Wendy is a Chinese-Brit who grew up in Brighton, on the south coast of England. She travelled to Hong Kong regularly as a child to visit her grandparents and extended family, learning some Cantonese over many years, although she is far from fluent. She attributes these early experiences to the travel bug, which she has firmly caught. Like many students, she decided to take a gap year before going to university, and she spent a year in Hong Kong, where she taught English and used it as a base to explore China. She returned to the UK to get a bachelor’s in English from the University of Manchester, but decided she wasn’t ready to settle down just yet. For the last decade, Wendy has travelled through, and taught English in, numerous countries, including Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Sri Lanka, China (again) and Australia. She frequently returns home to England, but mostly to use it a jumping-off point to dive into Europe, where she has visited many of the continent’s major cities… as well as some less major, but equally beautiful ones! While she loves teaching English, Wendy enjoys learning languages, too. In addition to her broken Cantonese, she speaks some Thai, Vietnamese and a small amount of German. She has picked up a little Spanish from her holidays in Spain, but would like to travel Central and South America next, where she can really put it to the test. When Wendy isn’t teaching or researching her next adventure overseas, she enjoys reading, playing with dogs (those of her parents or any she happens to come across) and hiking the English countryside. Also, she loves writing and has combined this passion with travel to blog about her experiences and offer advice to fellow travellers. Finally, she occasionally works with Language Trainers to help design curriculums for their teachers to use.
