One-to-one General/Business
Afrikaans Course in Colchester
If you want to be taught Afrikaans for academic reasons, business needs or gain a working knowledge of the language for general purposes, our tailormade lessons are guaranteed to be the ideal solution.
While a General Afrikaans course will provide you with enough linguistic ammunition to allow you to survive a short visit to the country (greetings, basic conversation and a solid grammatical foundation). A Business course will focus on business protocol in Afrikaans, and later on reading and writing will become more important.
Courses are, however, tailor-made - you cover in your lessons what you need to cover. Most students taking a Business Afrikaans course will gain telephone and email expertise, as well as general conversation skills. Likewise, a General course can include specific elements that are integral to your needs, for example if you need vocabulary specific to buying property overseas.
Typical Business course students include those in international import/export, those hoping to gain acquisitions in foreign countries, those within multinational corporations, and people who do business with foreign institutions and governments. General courses cater mostly to those who wish to learn Afrikaans for short trips to (or through) a country where it is widely spoken; as well as those who wish to pass a specific Afrikaans exam, people who want to buy a home abroad, and people marrying into a Afrikaans family.

Info about Colchester
With a population of just over 100,000, Colchester lays claim to be the oldest recorded town in Britain, as mention of the place has been found in Roman documents dating back to 77AD. This gives the town an extraordinary cultural heritage with deep historical value.
Colchester also enjoys a rich and varied migrant population, boasting the highest percentage of non-British residents in the county, mainly thanks to overseas students attending Essex University. This makes it the best place to pick up a second language in Essex, with plenty of cultures represented in the diverse mix of ethnicities around the town.
Info about Afrikaans
Originating from 17th century Dutch, Afrikaans is mainly spoken in South Africa and Namibia, though there are communities found throughout Africa. The language was considered a dialect of Dutch until the late 1800s, when it was pronounced an official language in its own right; though even today Dutch and Afrikaans are pretty much mutually intelligible. The language has spread and influenced other cultures: London has its own newspaper in Afrikaans - Die Stem; South African English has many loan words from Afrikaans; and there is a growing scene for musicians singing in the language.
Afrikaans is a rich and appealing language with a fascinating history and complicated social history, though its future as an official language of South Africa could well be under dispute.

Dear Paula, Hope all is fine for you. Above all, I am sorry because I haven't been able to take time enough to give you some feedback regarding the English lessons since I came back from Birmingham. As I said to Clara before going back to Paris, I was very satisfied and enjoyed a lot my English lessons with her. Of course, 4-hour lessons are obviously intensive, however I didn't see the time passing because it was very interesting for me and diversified. I think I had the opportunity to extend my vocabulary during my stay and to learn and improve some grammar (particularly : present perfect and present perfect continuous). Moreover, the lessons were in total coherence regarding the program of my lessons here in France and the objectives of my stay here in Birmingham. Clara helped me a lot and was very involved in allowing me to get the best out of this experience. I really hope this experience will be a first step in improving my english. I am at your disposal for any further details.
