One-to-one General/Business

Afrikaans Course in Harrogate

Whether you want Afrikaans lessons to help you in your general day-to-day life or for business needs, our made-to-order language courses can help you improve quickly and confidently.

General Afrikaans courses will provide you with enough grammar and vocabulary to allow you to converse with native speakers, and form a strong basis for further learning. A Business course in Afrikaans will generally cover basic business etiquette in that language, and at a higher level, reading and writing in Afrikaans.

Our Afrikaans courses would not be fixed to a specific curriculum, however. You know the specifics of what you will need from your new language, and all you need do is tell your teacher. Perhaps if you are taking a Business course, you may want to focus more on Afrikaans telephone or email skills, or a specific vocabulary for your line of work. In the same vein, the syllabus for General courses is not set in stone - all you need do is ask your teacher.

Our Business courses cater to a range of requirements. Many of our clients work for foreign governments and educational institutions, corporations with branches abroad, as well as those who buy and sell around the world. Clients of our General Afrikaans courses include people moving abroad, those entering a Afrikaans family through marriage, those studying for a Afrikaans exam, as well as those who are simply passionate about Afrikaans language and culture.

Info about Harrogate

An affluent yet smallish settlement in Yorkshire, Harrogate has over 90,000 residents and was once a very popular town for the privileged, and evidence of this survives to this day, leading to the city being one of the best locations for conferences, exhibitions and other commercial events in Europe. The town still features several luxurious hotels, distinguished old-style tearooms, flamboyant floral displays and opulent architecture.

The standard of education in Harrogate is much higher than the national average, making it a great place to find a great teacher and start a course for a new language of your choice.

Info about Afrikaans

Originating from 17th century Dutch, Afrikaans is mainly spoken in South Africa and Namibia, though there are communities found throughout Africa. The language was considered a dialect of Dutch until the late 1800s, when it was pronounced an official language in its own right; though even today Dutch and Afrikaans are pretty much mutually intelligible. The language has spread and influenced other cultures: London has its own newspaper in Afrikaans - Die Stem; South African English has many loan words from Afrikaans; and there is a growing scene for musicians singing in the language.

Afrikaans is a rich and appealing language with a fascinating history and complicated social history, though its future as an official language of South Africa could well be under dispute.
