One-to-one General/Business
Catalan Course in Edinburgh
It's no problem if you need to take Catalan lessons specifically for personal use or to help with your career - our trainers mould the lesson plan to your precise needs.
General and Business courses in Catalan differ in style and content: a General course will concentrate on developing confident conversational skills, making short visits to the country less of an exercise in frustration and more about building upon the foundations to your own ends. A Business course in Catalan will generally cover basic business etiquette in that language, and at a higher level, reading and writing in Catalan.
Our Catalan courses would not be fixed to a specific curriculum, however. You know the specifics of what you will need from your new language, and all you need do is tell your teacher. Perhaps if you are taking a Business course, you may want to focus more on Catalan telephone or email skills, or a specific vocabulary for your line of work. Equally, a General course will cover the fundamentals, but further focus in any particular area can easily be arranged with your teacher.
We arrange Business courses for many clients; primarily those working in international trade, overseas governments and universities, and employees of multinational firms who require a second language. General courses are not simply for those who need to reach a certain level of Catalan for an exam - they are perfect for those wishing to pack up and move abroad, those marrying a Catalan national, as well as those travelling to the country for any other reason.

Info about Edinburgh
Edinburgh is something of a city of extremes. While the population is relatively old for the national average, the constant influx of the transient student population (around 100,000 out of a city of just under half a million people) makes up for the relative lack of resident youth. The city has a plethora of history, yet is one of the fastest-growing regions in Europe.
For most of the year the city is like any other historic Scottish city - mostly peaceful, with friendly residents, beautiful architecture, all overshadowed by a medieval castle. But that all goes to pot during the months from July to September, as the Edinburgh Festival runs its course, attracting many thousands of people to Scotland's capital.

Info about Catalan
Spoken as the national language in Andorra, and utilised in several territories in Spain (most notably Catalonia, parts of Valencia, and the Balearic Islands) as well as parts of Italy and southern France, Catalan is spoken by around 9 million people worldwide, though primarily in Europe. Spain's re-entry into democracy in 1975 increased the use of Catalan around Spain, which had for so long been banned from being used by the Spanish media in favour of Castilian, the language which non-native speakers generally refer to as 'Spanish'.
Regarded as a language in its own right and not simply a regional Spanish dialect, Catalan is actually divided into two dialects - Western and Eastern Catalan, though linguists can debate that each of these can be divided into several sub-dialects depending on the area in which it is spoken, making it a particularly exotic language to learn!

After finding out that I'd been accepted into a student exchange program in Germany, I figured I'd better learn enough of the language to get by. The Language Trainers classes fit around my uni schedule, and I learned as much about the culture as I did about how to speak German. I'm now in the third week of the program, and am even relaxed enough to have organised my first date!
