If you want to be taught Dutch for academic reasons, business needs or gain a working knowledge of the language for general purposes, our tailormade lessons are guaranteed to be the ideal solution.
General Dutch courses will cover Survival Dutch, allowing you to be comfortable during short visits to the country; polite conversation, practicable vocabulary and a strong grammatical foundation. A Business course in Dutch will generally cover basic business etiquette in that language, and at a higher level, reading and writing in Dutch.
The exact syllabus is not determined simply in terms of 'General' or 'Business' - the course is tailor-made to your needs. If, as a Business student, you need extra focus on telephone or email communication, or vocabulary from a specific field of business, you only need mention this to your tutor. In the same way, those taking a General course who may need more knowledge of a certain aspect of Dutch need only request it from their teacher.

City information
Edinburgh is something of a city of extremes. While the population is relatively old for the national average, the constant influx of the transient student population (around 100,000 out of a city of just under half a million people) makes up for the relative lack of resident youth. The city has a plethora of history, yet is one of the fastest-growing regions in Europe.
For most of the year the city is like any other historic Scottish city - mostly peaceful, with friendly residents, beautiful architecture, all overshadowed by a medieval castle. But that all goes to pot during the months from July to September, as the Edinburgh Festival runs its course, attracting many thousands of people to Scotland's capital.
Language information
Spoken by over 30 million people around the word, the Dutch language is the native tongue of the Netherlands and is spoken in many other countries throughout Europe and parts of Africa (being the parent language of Afrikaans). Dutch grammar is similar to German, but made easier by the relative lack of morphology (that is, words changing form depending on the role they are playing in a sentence). This gives it an English feel, though the vocabulary features plenty of those lovely lengthy compound words that generally characterise Germanic languages.
Dutch is not traditionally a popular language for non-native speakers to learn, mainly due to the fact that its use is not widespread, and most Dutch speakers are generally proficient in other European languages. However, the number of non-native speakers has surged in recent years.
