One-to-one General/Business

Dutch Course in London

If you want to be taught Dutch for academic reasons, business needs or gain a working knowledge of the language for general purposes, our tailormade lessons are guaranteed to be the ideal solution.

General and Business courses in Dutch differ in style and content: a General course will concentrate on developing confident conversational skills, making short visits to the country less of an exercise in frustration and more about building upon the foundations to your own ends. A Business course will focus on business protocol in Dutch, and later on reading and writing will become more important.

The exact syllabus is not determined simply in terms of 'General' or 'Business' - the course is tailor-made to your needs. If, as a Business student, you need extra focus on telephone or email communication, or vocabulary from a specific field of business, you only need mention this to your tutor. In the same vein, the syllabus for General courses is not set in stone - all you need do is ask your teacher.

Our Business courses cater to a range of requirements. Many of our clients work for foreign governments and educational institutions, corporations with branches abroad, as well as those who buy and sell around the world. General courses are not simply for those who need to reach a certain level of Dutch for an exam - they are perfect for those wishing to pack up and move abroad, those marrying a Dutch national, as well as those travelling to the country for any other reason.

City information

London may well be THE place to pick up a second language - the city is awash with ethnic diversity thanks to the size, splendour and influence of the EU's most populous city. Over 300 languages are spoken around the sprawling mass of boroughs known as Greater London, shared amongst the 7 and a half million residents of the city.

As the capital of the UK, London has always attracted overseas interest, which is only helped by the fact that the city houses five international airports, including the busiest international airport in the world - Heathrow. This creates a constant influx of tourists and immigrants from a huge variety of cultural and religious origin. If there was ever a place ideally suited for learning another language, surely London is it - something that foreigners know only too well, as London is a global centre for English language learning.

Language information

Spoken by over 30 million people around the word, the Dutch language is the native tongue of the Netherlands and is spoken in many other countries throughout Europe and parts of Africa (being the parent language of Afrikaans). Dutch grammar is similar to German, but made easier by the relative lack of morphology (that is, words changing form depending on the role they are playing in a sentence). This gives it an English feel, though the vocabulary features plenty of those lovely lengthy compound words that generally characterise Germanic languages.

Dutch is not traditionally a popular language for non-native speakers to learn, mainly due to the fact that its use is not widespread, and most Dutch speakers are generally proficient in other European languages. However, the number of non-native speakers has surged in recent years.
