One-to-one General/Business

German Course in Edinburgh

Whether you want German lessons to help you in your general day-to-day life or for business needs, our made-to-order language courses can help you improve quickly and confidently.

General and Business courses in German differ in style and content: a General course will concentrate on developing confident conversational skills, making short visits to the country less of an exercise in frustration and more about building upon the foundations to your own ends. A Business course in German will generally cover basic business etiquette in that language, and at a higher level, reading and writing in German.

The exact syllabus is not determined simply in terms of 'General' or 'Business' - the course is tailor-made to your needs. If, as a Business student, you need extra focus on telephone or email communication, or vocabulary from a specific field of business, you only need mention this to your tutor. Equally, a General course will cover the fundamentals, but further focus in any particular area can easily be arranged with your teacher.

We have a wide range of Business course clients for a variety of needs; including people who are off to work for a foreign administration, people working in a corporation with overseas headquarters, and import/export specialists. Clients of our General German courses include people moving abroad, those entering a German family through marriage, those studying for a German exam, as well as those who are simply passionate about German language and culture.

City information

Edinburgh is something of a city of extremes. While the population is relatively old for the national average, the constant influx of the transient student population (around 100,000 out of a city of just under half a million people) makes up for the relative lack of resident youth. The city has a plethora of history, yet is one of the fastest-growing regions in Europe.

For most of the year the city is like any other historic Scottish city - mostly peaceful, with friendly residents, beautiful architecture, all overshadowed by a medieval castle. But that all goes to pot during the months from July to September, as the Edinburgh Festival runs its course, attracting many thousands of people to Scotland's capital.

Language information

Standardised German is only around 200 years old, as before then it was a written language modified by regional dialects. However, these days it is an important European language, spoken by almost a third of the population of the EU-15 nations. If you need to learn German, you will be surprised at the speed at which you can become a confident speaker with a native-speaking German tutor from Language Trainers. Our tutors will come and meet you at a time and place of your choice, and can teach either 1-to-1 or in a group, depending on your needs. The course content can also be adjusted to fit in with your own needs from the language, and all course materials are provided.
