German in London

Why learn German in London? – German is the language of humanity’s greats: composers, like Mozart and Beethoven, or philosophers, like Kant or Nietzsche. London, as the capital, is a central hub for cultures around the world and one of the best places in the U.K. to experience German culture. Places such as Kamps bakery and Herman Ze German are favourites among native German speakers for their authentic breads and currywurst. London even hosts its own annual Oktoberfest, bringing both the German and local community together to celebrate the icon of German culture – its beer! Taking German classes in London is an excellent way of exploring one of the world’s most influential cultures, allowing you to embrace the multicultural identity so essential to modern-day society.

The benefits of learning German are not limited to culture. Germany has the biggest economy of the EU, and the fourth-largest worldwide. As the UK prepares itself for Brexit, it is more important than ever to establish a secure working relationship with Germany. The country is the UK’s second-largest trading partner, importing over $46.6 billion worth of shipments in 2017, according to United Nations data. Taking German courses in London allows you to make the most of the international opportunities available in the city. German corporations such as Lidl and Adidas are huge employers in London, and studying the language will give you the freedom to fully explore the possibilities offered by the German markets.

Languages are a valuable asset for professionals in all areas of work, in particular as our economies become increasingly globalised. More and more people are recognising the value of studying a foreign language, and gravitate towards the ‘favourites’ such as French, Spanish or Mandarin. Whilst important, the vast numbers of learners mean that demands for speakers of those languages can be met with greater ease. German has the advantage of being more ‘niche’ without being any less important in the business world. In fact, according to a 2016 report by jobs search engine Adzuna, out of all the job postings in Britain requiring a second language, German speaking jobs were the highest paying at an average of £35,000. The language also opens the door to travel in some of the world’s wealthiest countries, such as Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Belgium. Studying German is a worthy investment which can truly enrich your life in more ways than one.
