Korean Lessons in London

Get Started and Learn Korean

One of the most multicultural and diverse cities in the world, London has the largest population number of foreign-born residents of any UK city. At the time of the 2011 census, 36.7% of London's population was foreign-born, and many of them came from Korea. These Asian immigrants have been settling in New Malden (also called Koreatown) since the 1980s and now they amount to more than 10,000 people who claim Korean origin. As almost 30% of them are monolingual speakers, those who want to connect with this ethnic group will find that taking a language course is a smart move. Further, you will also be able to access job opportunities and enjoy cultural events available to bilingual speakers. Get in touch with us at Language Trainers and we will prepare a course suitable to your skills!

Why Study Korean in London

Learn Korean for Studies: Learning Korean in London will enable you to pursue higher education in the city. For example, you can enrol in SOAS University of London’s BA in Korean Studies, where you will not only learn essential language skills but also an in-depth understanding of the country’s culture, covering literature, history, cinema, and politics, among other subjects. And if you are looking for postgraduate programmes, this same institution offers an MA in Korean Studies. You will leave SOAS as a graduate not only with linguistic and cultural expertise but also with a portfolio of widely transferable skills which many employers seek in professional and management careers. To start these courses, you will need at least a basic understanding of Korean. Contact us today and we will adapt our Exam Preparation Course to make sure you meet the minimum requirements to enrol!

Learn Korean for Culture: You will also find many instances of Korean culture in and around London to experience. Those who love cinema, for example, should attend the London Korean Film Festival, a very popular event organised since 2005. In 2019, the festival highlighted the historic milestone of 100-years of Korean cinema along with an exciting mix of UK and international premieres, guests and events across a diverse set of strands. The movies are screened in their original language with English subtitles, which you will not need after taking a Korean course with us. And if you would like to know more about the city of London itself, you can take a guided tour with Korean-speaking operators. The tour will take you to see the most important landmarks of London, such as Westminster Abbey or the London Eye, with an international twist: all the explanations will be in Korean. Take advantage of this opportunity to practise your listening skills while discovering London like never before.

Learn Korean for Social: Sign up for a Korean course and you will also be able to connect with Korean speakers around the city. For example, you can join the London Korean Language Meetup, a language exchange group where you will find other learners and native Korean speakers willing to help you improve your foreign language skills. All ages and levels of proficiency are welcome, so do not hesitate to join their weekly or extraordinary meetings, such as their annual Christmas dinner in a themed Korean restaurant, like Asadal on High Holborn or Bi Bim Bap on Greet Street. Another option is to attend the activities organised by the UK Korea/Korean Lovers Meetup, another language exchange group that bring together people who like the Korean language, cinema, music, arts and culture in general. Put your Korean to use, improve your pronunciation and speaking skills while making new friends and have a great time.
