Case Studies: Teachers

Sara

Language Trainers: What language(s) do you teach?

Sara: I teach Swedish and French. As a native Swedish speaker with a strong background in French, I am deeply passionate about both languages and the unique perspectives they offer.

Language Trainers: Why did you choose a career in teaching?

Sara: Teaching for me is more than just sharing knowledge—it’s about inspiring and nurturing growth in others. My personal connection to languages and my multicultural upbringing, with a Tunisian father learning Swedish and French as the main language of communication at home, made me realise how languages can bridge cultures. They offer a window into different worldviews and foster a deeper understanding of our own. Teaching allows me to share this passion and help students gain not only linguistic skills but also cultural insights.

Language Trainers: Tell us about your teaching qualifications and history.

Sara: I hold a Bachelor’s degree in French and completed teacher training in Sweden, where I gained valuable hands-on experience through internships with students aged 11-19. I designed engaging lesson plans and created tailored materials for diverse learning needs. Additionally, my time studying in France through the Erasmus program enriched my understanding of French literature and language pedagogy. Currently, I work as a Swedish tutor, combining my native language skills with my teaching experience to help students excel.

Language Trainers: What attracted you to teach with Language Trainers?

Sara: Language Trainers’ commitment to providing personalised and flexible language learning experiences resonated with me. The opportunity to teach students from various backgrounds and adapt lessons to their unique goals aligns with my teaching philosophy. I was also impressed by the supportive environment for teachers, which encourages continuous development and creativity.

Language Trainers: What is your favourite thing about working with Language Trainers?

Sara: I love the diversity of students I get to work with. Each student brings their own story, motivation, and learning style, making every lesson unique. The flexibility of the platform also allows me to tailor my teaching methods and materials to suit individual needs, which I find very rewarding.

Language Trainers: What do you look for in a student?

Sara: I look for curiosity and a willingness to embrace the learning process. Mistakes are a natural part of language learning, and I value students who are open to experimenting and exploring the language without fear. A positive and open mindset goes a long way in making progress.

Language Trainers: What should students expect from you as their teacher?

Sara: Students can expect a supportive, patient, and engaging learning environment. I strive to make my lessons interactive and tailored to their interests, while also incorporating cultural insights. My approach includes a balance of structured learning, creative exercises, and real-life language practice to build both confidence and competence.

Language Trainers: Describe your most memorable teaching experience with Language Trainers.

Sara: One memorable experience was with a student who initially lacked motivation to learn the language, as they were enrolled by their parents rather than out of personal interest. While much more common in a school environment, this is rarer in tutoring, where students usually have a strong desire to learn. Despite this, I focused on finding creative ways to engage them. Over time, the student became more and more engaged during class and found an inner motivation to learn. It was incredibly rewarding to witness their progress and see them open up, finding genuine enjoyment in the language learning process.

Language Trainers: Why should students enrol in a language course with Language Trainers?

Sara: Language Trainers offers a personalised learning experience that goes beyond a standard classroom setting. With highly qualified teachers who tailor their lessons to meet individual needs and goals, students can expect a customised approach that helps them progress faster.

Language Trainers: Tell us a fun fact about the language you teach or a favourite expression you ask your students to learn.

Sara: A fun fact about Swedish is the word "lagom," which means "just the right amount" or "in moderation." It’s a uniquely Swedish concept that reflects a cultural emphasis on balance and contentment. It’s also a great conversation starter about the cultural differences in values and lifestyle between Sweden and other countries.
